ALTOONA, FL – Otto "Jerry" Albrecht, 87, of Altoona, FL, died Tuesday, May 5, 2020. Born August 30, 1932, to Otto Herman Albrecht and Ethel Ferry, he was raised in Yardville Heights, NJ, and known by friends as "Sonny." He attended Yardville Heights Elementary School, Hamilton High School West, and Pennington Preparatory School before joining the New Jersey National Guard in 1950. In 1951 he was called to active duty by the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and was stationed at Turner Air Force Base, Atlanta, GA, where he worked as a jet-engine specialist following his graduation from the Greenleaf Commercial Trades Institute, Chicago, IL. Awarded the National Defense Service Medal, he also won the Inter-Service Football Championship in 1951 playing defensive end for the Turner Aeros, and later baseball at Godman Airforce Base, Fort Knox, KY. An athlete and avid car enthusiast, Jerry excelled at baseball and football and loved working on cars. He built a one-of-a-kind custom street rod named the "Jewel." He married the late Delia McCloskey on July 1, 1954, raising three daughters, Cheryl, Terry, and Kimberly, two sons, Jerald and James, and a third son, Jeremy, following his marriage to Sandra Albrecht (née Cole), of Findlay, OH, on December 23, 1994. He moved to Ocala, FL, in 1998. On August 12, 2006, he married Judith Albrecht (née Ernst). He and Judy retired to Lakeview Terrace, Altoona, FL. Past president of the Olden Slot Track Racing Team, he was active in the German American Soccer League and the Sunnybrae Little League where he coached Carrella Shoes. He later managed PAL (Police Athletic League) for the Hamilton Twp. Babe Ruth League.
