Paloma Riano McKirahan was born in Madrid, Spain on July 7 th 1932. She passed to eternal rest on Sunday, June 29, 2025 at her home in The Villages, Florida. Paloma is survived by her husband, James Robert McKirahan, Jr.
Paloma always loved the movies. As a teenager, she would go to a double feature every Saturday afternoon. This was the highlight of her week. If she liked a particular movie, she would she it over and over again. She could not get enough of it.
At the end of those teen years, she started working for the airlines. During that time, she traveled extensively. On the job and on vacations, throughout Europe, North and South America, the Orient etc.
Paloma met her husband, an American, on the island of Mallorca, Spain. Soon after they got married and were inseparable. They were married for almost 64 years.
In the U.S.A. she attended Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated to become a teacher. She spent sixteen years teaching French and Spanish in the schools of Cleveland Heights and University Heights communities.
Paloma and her husband, Bob travelled every summer to different locations, Spain (in particular) to visit family and friends.
They lived in Cleveland for many years before moving to Southeast Florida. They retired from teaching and started a new life and a new job in the Real Estate business. Miami and Ft. Lauderdale offered several Foreign Film Festival every year to the McKirahan's delight. On one of their trips, they discovered The Villages and fell in love with the area. They have been living here for the past 25 years.
Paloma is also survived by her nephew Ignacio Riano Garcia; niece Maria Del Carmen Riano Garcia; and nephew Javier Riano Garcia who live in Spain along with great nieces and nephews. Her sister-in-law, Nancy Darling who resides in Medina, Ohio. Nieces and nephews in Ohio – David (Rhonda) Darling, Linda Davis, Elizabeth (Tim) Verovich, Lorri (Brian) Skubon and Daniel (Pam) Darling along with many great nieces and nephews. Nieces and nephews in Michigan – Cheryl George, Debbie (Denny) Dekker, Rick (Jeanne) Behm, and Don (Terrie) Behm along with many great nieces and nephews. Paloma and Bob have many friends in Ohio and Florida. A special thank you to their next-door neighbor, Rosa and Victor Medina for always being there for both of them.
There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, July 12, 1015 at the First Responder Recreation Center from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Please join us to celebrate her life.
