Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Patti Abshire, who lost her courageous battle with cancer on February 17, 2025, at the age of 82. She passed away at her home in Punta Gorda, FL surrounded by family.

Born Patricia Louise Musgrave in Kansas City, Missouri. She grew up in Raytown, Missouri and graduated from Raytown High School. After high school she attended junior college and then began a career in data entry. She spent several years with Harte Hanks as a data entry supervisor in Kansas City, Missouri.

In 1965, she went on a blind date and met the love of her life Abby (Gilbert) Abshire. Six months later, Abby proposed to her on Panama City Beach where their love of the beach began. They honeymooned in Hawaii and then settled in Raytown to begin raising their family. After a few years, they moved to Kearney, Missouri and lived there for 20 years. They also had a beloved home at the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri where many wonderful memories were made. After retirement, they began as snow birds, but eventually moved full time to Punta Gorda to be near the beach.

Patti was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Dorothy Tinsley, a sister, Jackie Wagner, and a brother, Donnie Musgrave. But her biggest heartbreak was the death of her son, Todd Warren Volts in 2014.

She was a loving and devoted wife to and survived by her husband of 59 years, Abby and their beloved dog Meme, of Punta Gorda. She was also a wonderful mother to her children: her son, Mike Volts of Pompano Beach, and her daughter, Traci and Husband Jack Emerson of Punta Gorda. She cherished and was treasured by her 5 grandchildren: Todd Jr. and wife Tatiana, Justin and wife Katie, Dani, Matt and his wife Pricilla and their children, and Zachary. She also has 2 great granddaughters, Tahlia and Tiana, that were her heart's treasure. She is also survived by a sister, Shirley Gillette and brother, Richard Musgrave as well as many friends who loved her dearly.

Patti loved adventures and traveling and in her final weeks asked that we give this advice: Do not put off your bucket list. Live life to the fullest now because you never know how long you have.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, March 2nd at 2:00 pm at River Haven Hall, 10100 Burnt Store Road, Punta Gorda, Fl. She was a proud monthly donor to St. Jude's Children's hospital for the last 22 years so we ask that in lieu of flowers to make a donation to St. Jude's Children's Hospital in her name. https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sl=donate-now&sc_dcm=58700008005633810&sc_cid=kwp&ds_rl=1285465&ds_rl=1290690&ds_rl=1291300&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMIwe7tsr7ciwMVQBitBh2nAQ4gEAAYASABEgIt7fD_BwE&gclsrc=aw.ds
