Obituary

Patricia J. “Patty” Wood, aged 71, passed away on March 9, 2026, surrounded by the people who loved her most. Born on May 28, 1954, in Saranac Lake, New York, Patty carried the spirit of the Adirondacks with her throughout her life — steady, resilient, and full of quiet beauty.

Patty is survived by her loving husband and soulmate, Robert E. Wood, U.S. Army. She leaves behind her children Brian Klingenberger, Tracey (Daniel) Saporito, Melissa Wood, and Cyndi Wood, each of whom carries forward her strength, humor, and compassion.

She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Ashley (Ben), Nicholas, Alyssa (Tyler), Aiden, Jordan, Darius, Marcus, Tatiana, Nasir, Joey, Olivia, Mya, and Cameron. Her love extended to her two great-grandchildren, Theo Randall and Jayce Wood.

Patty is also survived by her siblings Melinda Sawyer, Raymond W. Cybul (Kathy), and Colleen Cybul, along with a large extended family.

She is predeceased by her parents, Bernadette N. Cybul, and Jerry “Ned” Sawyer, as well as her stepfather Raymond G. Cybul. Patty is also predeceased by her siblings Jerry E. Sawyer, Jr., Cynthia Sawyer, and Kathleen M. Cybul, the latter of whom passed away just one week before Patty.

As a child, Patty relocated to Rochester, New York, with her mother and siblings, a place that would shape much of her life. She built her home, her friendships, and her career there, eventually retiring from M&T Bank in 2015 after many years of dedicated service. Patty previously worked for close to 30 years at Chase Bank prior to her tenure at M&T. Following her retirement, Patty and her husband Robert embraced a new chapter together, moving to Orlando, Florida, where she resided until her untimely passing.

Patty lived with Multiple Sclerosis for nearly 40 years, meeting every challenge with courage, determination, and an unwavering spirit. She fought it every step of the way, refusing to let it define her or diminish the love, humor, and strength she shared with those around her. Her resilience was nothing short of remarkable, and it inspired everyone who witnessed her journey.

Patty lived a life marked by resilience, humor, curiosity, and kindness, leaving an indelible impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. She had a gift for finding light even in difficult moments, and her laughter — warm, unmistakable, and often a little mischievous — had a way of bringing people together. Her curiosity made her a lifelong learner, always eager to explore new ideas, places, and conversations. Above all, her kindness shaped every relationship she touched, offering comfort, understanding, and unwavering support.

Patty spent many years volunteering with the Chili Fire Department in Rochester, NY, where she made a remarkable impact on her community. Her dedication, compassion, and willingness to step forward in times of need earned her the respect of those she served and the lifelong friendships she cherished. Her presence there was more than service — it was a testament to her generous heart and her belief in helping others.

She also had a deep love for travel, always ready for a new adventure. No destination delighted her quite like Las Vegas, a place that called her name time and again. Whether it was the bright lights, the energy, or simply the joy of being somewhere she loved, Vegas held a special place in her heart.

Visitation and services pending in Rochester, NY, with graveside interment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
