Obituary

Mr. Paul Alfred Dix passed away on January 31, 2025, at the Leesburg Medical Center. Paul was born on October 4, 1944, in Clifton, New Jersey as the 3rd son of James Alfred Dix and Corinne Wynne. Born into a musical family, Paul was classically trained from a young age. Paul attended The Manhattan School of Music with a full scholarship, majoring in French Horn and graduated with a B.S in Music. He started working in the Broadway shows and substituting for New York Philharmonic French Horn section. He had a beautiful tone and good ears.
At that point, Paul was drafted to the Vietnam War where he served in Vietnam from May 22, 1969, to February 16, 1972. He was honorably discharged after he fell out of a Chanuk Helicopter in the line of fire and severely injured. When he came back to The States, he faced formidable challenges. He found himself unable to play music, he lost his hearing, and furthermore, he was not the same man. He was restless and suffered from PTSD, not to mention the constant physical pain from injuries. Despite of all these obstacles, he put himself through school and achieved a B.S and M.S in science. He spent his entire GI bill on a few classes at Columbia University. After that, he was entirely on his own to finance himself. There was nobody to help him at that point in his life. He worked hard with all kinds of odd jobs, sleeping 3-5 hours a day. Eventually, he was hired by the Academic High School (stem high school) in Jersey City, New Jersey, as a Science Teacher with a higher pay rate, preparing students to compete in the International Science Fair. The high school labs were not good enough to conduct the science projects he had in mind for his students. So, he reached out and gained support from The Steven's Institute of Hoboken, New Jersey's stem and engineering program, and from professors, Dr. Timothy Hart, Dr Andrews…, etc. He worked Monday through Saturday. His bright students shined and produced good results that he was nicknamed "Golden Goose laying Golden Eggs".
Paul worked as a high School Physics teacher for 36 years in the New Jersey school system. He was the personification of "True Strength, Integrity and Human Decency". He was loved by everybody around him for his kindness, generosity and his beautiful, warm smile. He was truly a beautiful person who gained nothing but admiration, respect and love from his wife of 34 years. As his wife, I feel so honored to have known him.  He was my HERO.  I loved him and will always love him. Paul is survived by his wife Kimberly Dix and his brother David Dix and his wife Cheryl Dix .
Paul's funeral will be held on March 14, 2025, Friday at 12:30 pm at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL. After the funeral, all will go to the Bell Glade Country Club and have a nice meal. That will make Paul happy. No Donations will be accepted.
