Paul was born in Little Rock, Arkansas. He received a Masters Degree from the University of California in Philosophy and Journalism and worked as an economic developer in business recruitment, retention and expansion. Paul was active in Rotary International, City of New Smyrna Beach Economic Development Advisory Board and Marine Discovery Center Board of Directors. Other notable accomplishments were television broadcasting, Continental Airlines Contractor Representative to NASA Manned Spacecraft Center Office of Astronauts and Public Affairs, Eagle Scout, Past President of NSB Rotary Club, and columnist of "View from Bascule Mountain", The Observer newspaper.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 30 years Kathleen, children Paul G Mayer, Mary J Mayer, Kathryn F Mayer, Mark A Mayer, Julie K Jones, Shelly L Lacy, Steven M Burt, grandchildren and a host of friends.

Life Celebration will be 3:00 PM Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Baldwin Brothers Heritage Place 1 North Causeway New Smyrna Beach FL 32169.
