Obituary

Paul William Yates, 89, passed away at his home in Orlando and went to be with the Lord on May 9, 2021. Paul was born in Newnan, GA on December 29, 1931, and attended Brookland-Cayce High School in Cayce, SC. He served 4 years in the Air Force and was stationed in the Aleutian Islands, AK and at Stewart Air Force Base in Newburgh, NY. Paul received his BA degree at Bryan College in Dayton, TN and later earned his MA in Religious Education from Grace Theological Seminary in Winona Lake, IN. He loved teaching children and first taught in a public school in Chattanooga, TN for 7 years. He then dedicated his life to Christian education, serving as an administrator and teacher for 40 years. He started Orange Christian School and Downey Christian School in Orlando, FL, both of which continue to this day. Paul was an active member at Aloma Church in Winter Park, FL.

Paul is survived by his wife, Lois Yates, of 69 years, and their 3 daughters, Rebecca Mullin, Ruth Fowler and Elizabeth Williams; his sister, June Seybt; his 5 grandchildren, Rachel Copeland, Julie Mantegna, Ryan Fowler, Lori Green and Steven Williams; and his 12 great grandchildren, Jace Green, Addison Green, Ava Mantegna, Kinsley Green, Eliza Mantegna, Annie Mantegna, Landon Green, Sophia Copeland, Maya Fowler, Alexandra Copeland, Eden Fowler and Luke Mantegna.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Wylie Lawrence Sr. and Audrey Adkins Yates; his brother, Wylie Lawrence Yates, Jr. and his sister, May Taylor.

Family will gather for a private memorial service, and a military burial is forthcoming at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
