Obituary

Pedro Henry Guzman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, veteran, neighbor, and friend, passed peacefully surrounded by the love of his family on May 20,2026 at 8:36pm. Born on October 28, 1929, Pedro lived a life marked by humility, strength, sacrifice, and unwavering kindness.

A proud United States Army veteran and Korean War soldier, Pedro was one of the few surviving veterans of the Battle of Pork Chop Hill. He carried immense pride in serving his country and remained a quiet example of courage, honor, and resilience throughout his life. His military service was never far from his heart. Pedro rarely left home without proudly wearing a hat honoring his service to the United States Army — a simple but meaningful symbol of the patriotism and pride he carried every day of his life. Though he rarely raised his voice, his actions spoke volumes. His calm presence, wisdom, fairness, and integrity left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Pedro was a hardworking man who believed deeply in ethics, fairness, and doing what was right even when it was difficult. He devoted much of his life to helping others, especially extended family members from the Dominican Republic whom he helped migrate to the United States in search of better opportunities and a brighter future. He gave generously whenever he could — whether through charity, lending a helping hand, or simply offering guidance and support to someone in need.

Known for his gentle and peaceful nature, Pedro was a friendly neighbor who could strike up a conversation with anyone. He listened more than he spoke, offering thoughtful advice and steady wisdom that made others feel heard and valued. He never sought attention or praise, yet quietly became a source of strength for many. Pedro loved nature and took great joy in working outdoors, caring for grass, plants, and the beauty of the world around him. A skilled handyman, he was happiest when fixing, building, or helping others with whatever they needed. He loved staying active, especially riding his bicycle and keeping busy outdoors. Even in his later years, he valued movement, fresh air, and the simple joys of being outside in nature.

He also had a well-known sweet tooth and a love for all things sweet, something that brought smiles and laughter to those who knew him best. Whether enjoying desserts, treats, or sharing something sweet with family, it was one of the many little joys that became part of his warm and endearing personality.

Pedro had a deep love for animals, treasured long drives across the country to visit family, and often shared cherished stories of his parents and their journey immigrating to New York. He remained engaged with the world around him, always keeping up with current events and the news. He loved cars and was a devoted Yankees fan who eagerly looked forward to every baseball season, faithfully cheering on his beloved New York Yankees each summer.

Above all, Pedro was a man of deep Catholic faith who loved God and believed wholeheartedly in Jesus Christ and the promise of the resurrection. His faith guided the way he treated others — with compassion, humility, patience, and love.Though his peaceful presence and kind heart will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort and strength in knowing that they will meet again.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

— Second Epistle to Timothy 4:7
