Obituary

Peter Anthony Mills, age 76, of Edgewater, Florida and formerly of New Smyrna Beach, Florida died early Tuesday morning, November 29, 2022, at his home in Edgewater. Peter was born in Eden Valley, Minnesota on March 7, 1946, the third child (second son) to Winifred M. (Schaefer) and Norman M. Mills. He grew up hunting and fishing in the Eden Valley area and attended Eden Valley High School. After graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy, remaining in the employ of Uncle Sam for more than a decade! On Independence Day in 1969, Peter married Priscille Lefebvre in Lowell, MA. They were teased relentlessly about this by their children. In 1975, fresh out of the Navy – Peter settled in Daytona Beach with his wife and young family, Debbie and Jimmy. Peter was a man who put family first, a trait he instilled in his children. He was a guiding force for his children and a mentor to many nephews, cousins, and colleagues. He was always there for a hug, a laugh, moral support, and advice. Peter was an entrepreneur and a jack of all trades who could fix anything. If he could not find a part he required, he would make one! His resume resembled a book of knowledge. Peter worked as a mink rancher, a boat builder, an auto mechanic, drove a big rig as an independent contractor and owned many businesses throughout his years. The Lawn Service – Satisfaction Guaranteed or double your grass back! – a picture framing shop, a pawn shop, as well as numerous rentals and rehabbed properties allowed Peter to serve the residents of Daytona and Ormond Beaches for more than 40 years. Peter enjoyed many hobbies throughout his life including bowling, hunting, fishing, ice fishing and sport fishing. (He really liked to fish!) Whether it was his dock in the backyard or on his boat, Peter was happiest when he had a fish on the line and a visit from friends or relatives was not complete without a deep-sea fishing trip. More recently biking, playing with his grandkids and maintaining his home. Family gatherings were his joy. Peter always had fresh caught fish for frying (a secret recipe from his days on Rice Lake as a youngster) and our Christmas family meal was a fish fry for many a year! He is loved by many and will be greatly missed. Peter is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Francis and sister, Joan (Ronald) Shank. He is survived by his youngest sister, Rosemary (Allan) Davisson; his business partner, best friend, and wife of more than 50 years, Priscille; his children, daughter, Deborah (Bob) Vaughan, son, James (Sarah) Mills; his three grandchildren, Noah (Vaughan), Jacob and Stella (Mills) and numerous nieces and nephews. Services will be held Friday, January 13th, 2023, at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery at 10am. Condolences can be sent to The Peter Mills Family, 1846 India Palm Drive, Edgewater, Florida 32141
