Peter James Morris of Belle Isle, Florida, died peacefully at home, after a long illness,on November 2, 2011, at 6:30 pm. He is survived by his wife, Hedy, his children Robert and Anne Marie, and three grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Peter Morris was born in New York City in 1921. He was the first American to import European auto parts into the United States. After he returned from combat in World War II, he founded Columbia Motor Corporation (1947) in New York City, a business that thrived until the late 1980s. When Peter retired,he and his wife moved to Orlando, where he continued his business on a smaller scale with The Motoring Shop Inc. A memorial service will be held at St. Mary of the Angels Episcopal Church, 6316 Matchett Road. Donations may be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center in Orlando.
