Obituary

Phillip Edward Peregrine, Age 79, died on Mar. 21, 2025 in The Villages, FL after fighting prostate /bone cancer for 25 years. Phil is survived by his wife, Marilyn Sue Brown Peregrine of 58 years, his daughter and son-in-law, Suzie and Lance Hampton and grandson Davis Hampton from Richmond, VA and his daughter and son-in-law, Michelle and Jason Musick and grandchildren, James Musick (Alexis), and Katie Musick from Austin, TX. He loved his family immensely. They brought great joy into his life.

Phil was born on March 31, 1945 in Plymouth, IN to parents Jane and Garold Peregrine. He had two sisters, Babs (Jim) Johnson and Vickie (Russ) Creed of Plymouth, IN.

Phil graduated from Plymouth High School in 1963 and Ball State University in 1967. He was a social study teacher at Walkerton High and Walkerton Elementary School and at Washington High School. He received a master's degree from Indiana University in 1970. In 1974, he went to The Ohio State University for a second Master's Degree in School Administration. He was then made Assistant Principal at Washington High School in South Bend before returning to The Ohio State University for a PHD in Education Research in 1982. He then became Assistant Principal at Navarre Middle School upon his return to South Bend. In 1983, he became principal of Midland High school in Midland, Texas and later moved to Ft. Worth, TX as Director of High Schools. Thereafter, he was promoted to Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Schools and then Assistant Superintendent of Personnel. Upon his retirement he went to work for America's Choice Education in Washington, D.C. Phil loved social and sports activities with a special interest in pickleball, golf, and many different types of card games. However, he loved The Ohio State football and was blessed to witness them win the National Championship in the last game they played while he was alive. His dedication to The Ohio State University led him to the Presidency of The Ohio State Alumni Club of The Villages (where he served as president for 5 years). Many years were spent volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and the Sheriff's Summer Camp. He enjoyed traveling abroad and reading and communicating with his grandsons about sports. His family and friends will always remember him as a generous, helping person who loved life.

The family would like to thank all of his Drs. and Hospice for helping him with this dreaded disease. Donations can be sent to Virginia Commonwealth University for Lance and Suzette Hampton Urology Diversity Scholarship or to Cornerstone Hospice in The Villages.
