He also leaves behind six nieces and nephews, seven great-nieces and nephews, and five great-great-nieces and nephews—with one more on the way. His children wish to express heartfelt gratitude to Mimi Raulli, who lovingly cared for them as a devoted stepmother during her ten years with the family.
A proud graduate of Lenoir City High School, Preston served as co-captain of the basketball team and played a pivotal role in leading them to a state championship victory in 1958—the school's first since 1930. As the team's leading scorer, he was honored with All-Region and All-State selections. Renowned for his pure shooting ability and exceptional defensive skills, Preston was often tasked with guarding the opposing team's top scorer. In the championship game, he rose to the challenge by successfully defending the top-ranked player in the state, a performance that exemplified his leadership and tenacity on the court. His passion for basketball continued through college, including time at Carson-Newman University. After college, Preston honorably served his country in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer and continuing to serve in the Navy Reserves for several years. His military service took him and his family to California and Hawaii, both of which held special places in their hearts.
Following his service, Preston began a successful career with Florida Power & Light working in one of the first nuclear power plants in Fort Lauderdale. He retired with distinction and settled in a peaceful home backing onto a beautiful golf course, where he and Claudia spent many happy years among cherished neighbors and friends. Preston was an avid golfer known for his remarkable talent and skill. He leaves behind many school friends, work colleagues, golf buddies, and the unwavering love of his beloved twin sister, Barbara.
A celebration of Preston's life will be held on Friday, June 27th , from 4:30 to 6:00 PM at Click Funeral Home in Lenoir City, Tennessee .
This will be an informal gathering with no viewing or formal service. A slideshow of memories will be shared, and guests are welcome to come as they are.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Preston's memory to the American Lung Association and/or the American Legion .
