Raines Davenport
Haggerty
April 23, 1970 – January 27, 2022
"Believe me, my young friend, there is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats." Kenneth Grahame
Raines Davenport Haggerty was happiest when he was on the water; As a kid on "the reservoir" putting endless miles on an orange Coleman canoe with his brother Cash, as a teenager on the Albemarle Sound, and later in life as captain of his bright blue skiff up and down Taylor's Creek in Beaufort, NC, Raines had been dropping his anchor and enjoying the changing tides for most of his life. When Raines was not on the water, or in the water, he preferred to be near the water. He lived for a number of years in Beaufort, NC, working at Front Street Grill. After relocating briefly to Alexandria, VA to be near his brother, nieces and nephew, Raines followed a longtime dream by moving to Florida, where he continued his successful career as an associate with Home Depot. Living walking distance from the beach, Raines reveled in daily life by the Atlantic Ocean.
Raines was born on April 23, 1970 in Rocky Mount, NC. He died at home in Titusville, Florida on January 27, 2022. He was 51 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents, Casher "Chuck" Williams Haggerty Jr and Bettie Dowdy Haggerty. He is survived by his brother and sister, Casher Haggerty III of Manteo, NC and Katherine Haggerty Moran of Durham, NC; his nieces, Kathleen Louise Haggerty and Caroline Grace Haggerty; his nephew, Casher Dylan Haggerty; as well as aunts, uncles and cousins who were important to him.
A service will be held at Eno River Unitarian Universalist Fellowship, 4907 Garrett Rd, Durham, NC 27707 on April 16, 2022 at 2pm. A stream of the service can be viewed at: https://www.facebook.com/eventseruuf/
We will always think of our love of Raines as we Captain our boats through the no wake zone.
