Obituary

Ray Edward Thompson, 86, of Eustis Florida, passed away on 7-1-2025 after a brief illness at FL Adventist Hospital in Orlando. He was born on September 25th, 1938 to the late Roy and Norma Mae (Campton) Thompson in Blocher, Indiana. After graduating High School at Scottsburg, Indiana in 1956, He married Charlotte Ann Phillips in 1959 and they had a Son, Tim Thompson. Fast forward some years and Ray met Golda Aker, his wife of many happy years. They met and had their first dance of many together at the Holiday Inn in Columbus Indiana.  Columbus was their home for many years where Ray loved taking his family members out on Grandview Lake to ski and enjoy boat rides. After a 42 year career at Cummins, he retired from there to Eustis, FL where he continued to  enjoy boating on Lake Eustis with family and friends. He and Golda were members of the Elks Lodge #1578 where they enjoyed dancing, music, family and friends. They were also members of the Moose as well.  On many Sundays, you could find him watching his Nascar race.  Ray diligently cared for Golda for many years as she suffered failing health and dementia. He was a beloved Father, Brother, Uncle, and was known as "Gramps" to his Step Granddaughters.  He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Golda Thompson; stepdaughter Linda Cominos; sister Wilma Berg 3 weeks prior to his passing; and  his cat "Bud" which he adored. Ray is survived by his Son, Tim Thompson and Tim's companion Anne Mills Norris; his Sister Thelma Cliborn (Bob); nephew Greg Jones and grand nephew James Robert Jones; Niece Terri Monahan (Bob); Two step Granddaughters, Tasie Bairaktaris (Jim) and Alexia Cominos. There are a great many more extended family of great nieces and nephews and friends. His absence is felt deeply and he will be honored in a private service at an undisclosed date. The final resting place for Ray and Golda will be Lexington Cemetery in Indiana.
