IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Raymond
Sheffer
July 13, 1937 – April 16, 2025
In Loving Memory of Raymond "Ray" Sheffer July 13, 1937 – April 16, 2025
Raymond "Ray" Sheffer, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on April 16, 2025, in Summerfield, Florida, surrounded by the love of his family and the warmth of cherished memories.
Born July 13, 1937, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Ray was the son of Charles and Helen Humiston Sheffer. A proud fifth-generation native of Pittstown NY, Ray was born and raised on the family's dairy farm—a legacy he treasured deeply. Although Ray built his career off the farm, he took immense pride in knowing the Sheffer family farm remains a working operation, now in its six-generation.
Ray shared 66 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Louann Merrill Sheffer. Together, they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and unwavering family values. They raised their three sons—Mark (Randi) of Fort Edward, NY; Mike (Patty) of Amelia Island, FL; and Rob (MaryAnn Johnson) of Minneapolis, MN—in Hoosick Falls, where Ray and Louann were always ready to lend a hand to friends and neighbors and proudly cheered on their sons in every endeavor.
Ray was a devoted Catholic of the Albany NY diocese a member of the Cursillo retreats and a team leader for the Residents Encounter Christ ministry. He was always guided by his strong faith and quiet generosity.
After retirement, Ray and Louann spent winters in Panama City Beach before making their home in Summerfield, Florida. Over the past 14 years, Ray embraced every moment—Morning clubhouse coffee with the guys, dancing with Louann, helping with the Tuesday night dinner crew, playing horseshoes and enjoying spirited card games. He was especially fond of challenging his two wonderful and caring aides, Salisa, and Brandy, to a hand of cards, always with a glint of mischief and a smile.
Ray leaves behind a large and loving family: his wife Louann; sons and their spouses; grandchildren Sara Corona (Michael), Jeremy, Hiedi Washington (Jaquan), Matt (Victoria), Kirsten Short (Tyler), Justin, and Ryan (Sydney), former daughter in law and family friend Darlene Sheffer and great-grandchildren Lana, Claire, Henry Corona, Stella, Beatrix and Theo Washington, and Madison Short.
He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, as well as dear friends from New York, Canada and Florida who brought so much joy and companionship into his life.
The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the wonderful team at HighPoint at Stonecrest and Cornerstone Hospice for the exceptional care, kindness, and support they provided to Ray.
A Funeral Mass and burial will be held at the Immaculate Conception Church located in Hoosick Falls NY on Saturday, July 12. Visitation will be at 9:00 am with the Funeral Mass starting at 10:00 am. Reception will immediately follow in the basement of the Immaculate Conception Church. The Burial will be for family and friends after the reception at Warren Cemetery located on Warren Cemetery Road in Pittstown NY.
In lieu of flowers , the family kindly requests that donations be made in Ray's name to the Hoosick Falls Youth Center (Town of Hoosick Community Center PO Box 303 Hoosick Falls NY 12090) in honor of his love for youth sports and commitment to the Hoosick Falls community.
Ray will be remembered for his humble strength, generous spirit, deep faith, and unwavering love for his family and community.
