IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Reverend Gerald
Scobie Steidl
April 4, 1942 – December 31, 2023
Reverend Gerald Scobie Steidl lost his valiant battle with illness and passed away peacefully at AdventHealth Waterman Hospital under the gentle care of Cornerstone Hospice and hospital nurses on December 31, 2023. He was 81 years old.
Jerry was born on April 4, 1942, in Cincinnati, Ohio and was adopted by his loving parents Nelson and Alice Steidl. He graduated from Wyoming High School and attended Miami University in Ohio. He married his high school sweetheart, Susan in 1966 and they were blessed with three children Kelly, Heather, and Jeremy.
His business careers included insurance and real estate, but in later years he was called to the ministry, and he became an Episcopal deacon in December of 1997. His service included the Church of the Holy Spirit, Apopka, Fl, Holy Trinity in Fruitland Park, Fl, and St. James in Leesburg, Fl. His service to the church and communities included President of Habitat Humanity in Apopka, multiple medical mission trips to Honduras, Kairos Prison Ministry, chaplain at Lake Correctional Institution, and Cursillo support staff. Wherever there was a need for care or assistance, Jerry was there and willing to help.
Although raised as an only child, Jerry found in recent years to his delight that he had 7 brothers and sisters. He loved telling those he knew and anyone he met about connecting with many of them and meeting them in Texas a few years ago.
Jerry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Susan; his daughters Kelly Beasley and Heather Williams, and son Jeremy Steidl, and five grandchildren.
Local services will be held on February 3, 2024, at 2 PM at the Church of the Holy Spirit in Apopka, Fl with final burial in his hometown of Cincinnati, Ohio in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, please send prayers and/or donations to Church of the Holy Spirit Apopka, Fl or The American Cancer Society.
