Obituary

Richard Michael Caputo, known to many as Coach, passed away on February 16, 2025, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 74 years old.

Rich is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Mary Ann, and his sisters, Diane Caputo and Mary Ellen Caputo. He is also survived by a daughter, Roseann Youngblood, a son, Frank Moraco as well as multiple grandchildren.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Angela Caputo.

Born on April 3, 1950, in White Plains, NY, Rich pursued his passion for education and athletics, earning a master's degree in physical education from Springfield College. He dedicated 34 years to teaching and coaching at Byram High School, where he made a lasting impact on countless students and colleagues. His leadership and dedication led to him being the first inductee into the Byram Hills Hall of Fame—an honor that reflected the profound respect and admiration he earned throughout his career.

Beyond the classroom and the field, Rich found great joy in the game of golf, cherishing both the sport and the camaraderie it brought him. A devoted Yankees fan, he spent many seasons cheering for his favorite team.

More than anything, Rich was a loving husband, father, "Poppy," son, brother, friend, and coach. His warmth, guidance, and unwavering support touched the lives of many, and his legacy will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.

A celebration of Rich's life will be held on Tuesday, February 25th at 11 am at St. Vincent De Paul Catholic Church, 5323 E County Road 462 Wildwood, FL 34785.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made in his memory to St. Jude Children's Hospital, the Ronald McDonald House in Orlando or The First Tee in Central Florida.
