Richard James Dixon-Bartlett passed away on November 2, 2023. He was 78 years old and was born on August 4, 1945, in Buffalo, NY to Marylou Schuyler. He was adopted by Morris and Alice Bartlett. Richard graduated from Corning/Painted Post High School, in Painted Post, NY, and went on to attend Corning Community College for two years. Upon leaving college, he went to Rittners Floral Design School and became a Floral Designer.
In 1964, Richard was drafted into the U. S. Marine Corps, and he served in Vietnam as a Combat Engineer. Returning from Vietnam, he joined the Army Reserves and served for 4 years.
Richard spent over 40 years working as a Floral and Interior Designer, managing shops in New York, Hawaii, California, Texas, Nevada, Missouri, Georgia, and Florida. He designed floral pieces for weddings, funerals, large hotels, party boats, etc. For over 15 years, he participated in designing floral designs for Los Angeles Home and Garden Shows, and he created floral designs for the Rose Bowls Parade floats . During this time, Richard weekly designed the set for the "Hour of Power TV" show at the Crystal Cathedral, Garden Grove. He was considered an expert in artificial trees and plants, and designed large silk arrangements for hotels, bowling centers, churches, and designer homes.
From 1981-1987, he was a member of the cast of both the Glory of Easter and Glory of Christmas shows which were held annually at the Crystal Cathedral. He was an annual volunteer of the Beverly Hills Garage Sales and Operation Sparkle Auction at the Unity Church of Honolulu.
Richard loved to be in nature and near the ocean. He was extremely creative and crafty and always had his home looking like a showplace. He was a "people person" and enjoyed making friends wherever he went. He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Tina Dixon-Bartlett, 3 sisters, Shelly Simmons, Nancy Looten, and Karen Schuyler, his brother John Schuyler, and numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.
A military honors and internment event will be held at the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, Fl on January 18, 2024, at 11:30 a.m.
