Richard
Goodro
August 17, 1943 – February 22, 2019
GOODRO
Richard A."Dick" Goodro, 75, of Ormond Beach, Fl and formerly of East Middlebury, VT, died on February 22, 2019 in the comfort of his own home following a short season of care and decline caused by pulmonary fibrosis.
Born in Middlebury, VT, he was the son of Rodney E. Goodro and Elizabeth (Andrews) Goodro. Raised in East Middlebury, he was the product of a supportive extended family and a small-town community that cared for each other well. Educated in Middlebury, he graduated from MUHS in 1961, and later earned a business degree from Champlain College. In his early career, Dick worked at the family business, Goodro Lumber, before entering into a long career as Middlebury's elected Town Clerk and Treasurer. He greatly enjoyed his public service and received many recognitions before retiring in 1999.
As a boy, Dick enjoyed exploring the fields, mountains and trails of Vermont, finding adventure frequently on the back of his favorite Morgan horse, Candy. In his youth, Dick developed a life-long involvement and enjoyment with the theatre, acting in and supporting many productions throughout the East Coast. Richard took great enjoyment tending to flowers and landscaping his residences in both Vermont and Florida.
Richard was easily recognized by his fantastic sense of humor, his elaborate story-telling, his gift of hospitality and his genuine interest in others. Endeavoring to make the world a smaller place, Dick and his family welcomed foreign exchange students and educators for many years in their home. Always a social person, Dick thrived in recent years making new friends in retirement, engaging in theatre, church and community activities.
Dick modeled love to the family that he shared with his wife of 54 years, Rachel Daryl (Buck) Goodro. Together from their teenage years, Dick and Daryl raised a family, traveled the world, served their communities and demonstrated a quiet faith in God. Dick was an ever-present figure and supporter of his children and their activities and interests. His smile, joy and an instigation of mischief only grew with the arrival of their ten grandchildren and his new era and legacy as "Coot."
Dick will be forever loved and appreciated by his wife, Daryl. Together, they created a family of three children, ten grandchildren and a great-grandchild: Son, Brian and his wife, Dawn of Lincoln VT, and their four children, Andrew and Lindsay Goodro, Mikaela Cote, Megan Hughes, and their grandson, Chase Cote; Daughter, Joelle (Goodro) Logan and her husband, James of Bristol, VT, and their four children, Hannah, Hallie, Evan and Elias Logan; Son, Aaron and his wife, Wendy, of Plaistow, NH, and their two children, Grace and Ian Goodro. Richard is also survived by a sister, Susan Gutt, and was pre-deceased by his brother, John Goodro. He will also be remembered fondly by his extended relatives and his extensive family in-law.
Services of remembrance and celebration of Dick's life will take place in two locations, at Bear Creek Community, 5 Brown Bear Path, Ormond Beach, FL on Wednesday, March 20, 2019 at 1:00pm, and in Middlebury, VT at a later date.
