Obituary

Richard B. Hargrave , a beloved father, uncle, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to be with the Lord on July 27, 2025. He led a long and faith-filled life, reaching the age of 102.

Born on March 5, 1923, in the Germantown section of Philadelphia, he served in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Finance, which he attended in the evenings.

He married Mabel Jane May in 1948. They were married for 63 years, until she passed away in 2011. He was an active member of First Grace Brethren Church in Philadelphia, where he used his financial background to serve as Financial Secretary for 25 years.

He was employed by the Masland Duraleather Company, a subsidiary of Uniroyal Rubber Co., for 35 years and retired in 1975 as the Assistant Treasurer. He then worked at Innovation Printing Co., Phila., for an additional 10 years, retiring permanently in 1985.

After retirement, he and Mabel made their home in Cape May Point, NJ, a place they dearly loved. He was a member of Beadle Memorial Presbyterian Church, where he served as Treasurer for 20 years and as Trustee for many more.

Winters were spent enjoying the warm weather in another paradise, Ranchero Village in Largo, FL. He remained active long into retirement, especially enjoying shuffleboard, golfing, and card games. At the age of 100, he even played an honorary shuffleboard game.

Dick is survived by his son, Richard Jr., and two grandsons, James R. and Richard F. He is also survived by his daughter, Jayne Branigan, and son-in-law, Francis Branigan; two beloved granddaughters, Kelly J. O'Mara (Michael) and Kimberly B. Colby (Henry); and three great-grandchildren, one of whom was named after him, and his nieces and great-nieces.

Dick was a man of quiet strength and wisdom. He greatly enjoyed time with his family and with friends who were loved like family.

A Celebration of Life will be held in Ranchero Village, FL.  Details to follow.
