Richard “Dick” Garret Jeffer, 89, of The Villages, FL passed away on Friday February 6, 2026. He was born November 22,1936 in Paterson, NJ to the late Richard and Mathilda (DeHaan) Jeffer of Midland Park, NJ.
Dick was an independent fuel dealer and a volunteer firefighter for the Midland Park Fire Department for 30 years. He was also a member of the Speculator Lions Club for 25 years where he enjoyed flipping pancakes on the griddle at the Piseco Fly-in to support local charities.
He served the Lord faithfully as an elder, deacon, and choir member with a perfect pitch bass voice. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan and lived to see them finally win a World Series.
He enjoyed watching sports of all kinds. In retirement, he enjoyed the Adirondack mountains, boating, fishing, and many hunting adventures which yielded numerous trophies.
He is survived by his devoted wife Ellen (Hartog); his three children Steven Jeffer, Barry Jeffer and Ruthellen deVries; his 10 grandchildren Nicholas, Steven, Kimberly, Austin, Cory, Colin, Tyler, Jeremy, Andrew and Emily; and his brother Peter A. Jeffer. Dick was predeceased by his daughter Sandra in 1977; his son Dale in 2023; and his brother Bob in 2021.
