Richard Mchenry's Obituary

Richard Joseph McHenry eighty-four went to our Lord on January 10 th .

Dick grew up in Moundsville, West Virginia and attended Linsly Military Institute in Wheeling. After serving in the  Navy, he attended Marshall University where he was a proud member of  Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Fifty years late he returned to reinstate the chapter at his beloved Alma Mater.

Graduating in journalism he came to Orlando as a reporter and  bureau chief for the Orlando Sentinel.  He went on to form his own public relations firm to handle projects for Central Florida attractions and public and private corporations.  He was also the publicity director of the Florida Fruit and Vegetable Association in Orlando and was the first creative director of the Orlando Area Apartment Association, showcasing various complexes during a weekly television show.

Ever the entrepreneur, he published various magazines such as the Florida Golf Guide and national directories of businesses and industries, the data base of which developed over a 30 year period was one of the most complete in the country.

Dick was also a part- time real estate developer who built an office building in Altamonte Springs and was a commercial real estate broker.

He was a Deacon and Elder in the First Presbyterian Church and was active in the Winter Park University Club.

Dick's twin passions of travel and photography took him and Martha to Asia, Africa, South America and Europe.

He is survived by his adoring wife Martha, his children Richard, Jr., Karen Pafford, son- in- law Ron and their children Holly and Abigael, and Kathryn McHenry, step- sons Chris and Jonathan Larsen, their spouses Rachel and Lisa and step grandchildren Hannah, Ellie and Caroline. He is also survived by his sister Patty Loy of Moundsville, West Virginia.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Brothers of Winter Park.  A celebration of Dick's life will be held Friday, January 25th at 3:00 p.m. at All Saints Church.
