Obituary

Richard "Durwood" Morris, 72 years old of Christmas, FL, passed away to be with our Lord and Savior on November 1, 2023, at Lake Nona VA Medical center. He was born August 10, 1951, in Durham, NC to Richard Wade Morris and Shirley Mae Wheely.

"Durwood" was an eagle scout during his early years and proudly joined the Army in 1968 after high school. He Honorably served in Vietnam-Laos from 1969 -1971 and was honorably discharged. Upon returning home, he joined the Local 808 Union Iron Workers and became a Journeyman Ironworker as a 6 GR Expert welder. He really enjoyed learning from the "Old-timers" and was inspired by his father-in-law, Aulton Poppell, in Iron work.

Richard was a member of the Christmas Church of God. The church has always been near and dear to his heart. Love for the church and people in the community was instilled in him from his parents, who were dedicated missionaries. This love led Richard to also served as a Volunteer at Fire department in early 1970's. In 2016 and years to follow, the church considered him as a guardian angel, as he prayed over every individual he encountered. He was the security guard for the youth ministry and protected the church grounds with discernment and presence.

He is preceded in death by his first wife Carmen Morris – Blake. Their son Richard Aulton Morris "Ricky", and his parents Richard Wade Morris and Shirley Wheely Morris.

He is survived by Lorrie Morris of Rockledge Fl.; Son, Richard Daniel Morris of Rockledge FL; daughter, Joy C. Hurley (Richard Hurley II) of Trenton Fl.; sons, Matthew and Joshua Morris of Rockledge Fl. Stepson, Brian Fry, of Rockledge Fl.; sisters, Deborah (Larry) Holleman of Durham N.C. and Lynn (Mike) Ligon of Richlands N.C. 6 grandchildren: Stephanie A. Chickering, Randell Chickering Jr., Megan B. Jones, Marrisa Morris, and Austin Hurley & Richard Hurley III; a step-grandson, Corey A. Schultz.; and 8 Great-grandchildren.

Mr. Morris has Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews & extended family members, friends and loved ones that he loved deeply that will miss him and forever be in their hearts. He was a man of God and had a heart of gold.

He truly will be missed by so many.
