Obituary

Richard Charles Ott, Sr., age 79 passed peacefully at Halifax Hospital in Daytona Beach, Florida, on January 22, 2024, surrounded by his family.

Richard is survived by his wife JoAnn of Port Orange, his son Richard Ott (Stella) of Port Orange, his daughter Michelle Ott – Dalton (Steven) of Lakeland, grandchildren Richard Ott III, Steven Ott, Joshua Machnik, Jessica Machnik and five great grandchildren. Richard is preceded in death by his parents, Conrad and Irene Ott, sister Connie Bachman and brother Raymond Blanco.

Richard was born on September 18, 1944, in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York. He graduated from Grover Cleveland High School in Ridgewood, New York. On February 20, 1966, Richard married JoAnn. Richard accepted a Police Officer position with the New York City Housing Authority (NYPD) in 1968 and retired a Detective First Grade in 1988.

Shortly thereafter, Richard and JoAnn moved to Port Orange, Florida and he accepted a Reserve Police Officer position with the Daytona Beach Police Department. Richard was promoted to Sergeant and worked for 15 years where he made many friends in the law enforcement community.

Richard was a great family man, a loving husband, Dad, and "Pop-Pop". The grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of his life.

Richard was a socially active man who was deeply involved in law enforcement for the majority of his life. He enjoyed traveling with JoAnn and spending time with his family. His family, co-workers, and friends will always remember him as a compassionate, humorous and loving person.

A celebration of life will be announced in the near future.
