Obituary

Richard Schuren, 94, of North Fort Myers, FL passed away at home on August 8, 2024, surrounded by his family. His fight against Alzheimer's disease took many things from him, but never his sense of humor.

Richard was born on June 7, 1930, in Newark, New Jersey to parents Herman and Lillian (Knowles) Schuren. He graduated from Appleton Academy and went on to serve in the US Navy on the USS Wisconsin from 1951-1953. He met his wife, Patricia, in Greenville, NH where they were married in 1956. They resided in Greenville for many years, during which time Richard built a home for them in Bloomfield, VT, where they spent summers. Winters were spent in North Fort Myers, FL prior to moving there permanently in 2021.

Richard spent his career with New England Telephone and Telegraph (Verizon). He was a member of the Bethel Souhegan Masonic Lodge in New Ipswich, NH and a lifetime member of the VFW. He was an avid hiker and backpacker, and spent years hiking and exploring the White Mountains and surrounding areas. He loved spending time in his garden, growing raspberries and blueberries, bird watching, working with his hands, and just enjoying nature.

Richard was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He is survived by his devoted wife, Patricia (Dow) Schuren; Daughters, Dayle Schuren and Audrey (Bruce) Garcia; Grandchildren, Alicia Jahns, Michael (Adrienne) Blaine Garcia and Allison (Gabriel) Garcia Murtorff and Great Grandchildren, Dinah and Mirabell Jahns.
