Richard was born at Horton Memorial Hospital in Middletown, New York on a snowy afternoon February 27, 1947 to Richard E Sigler Sr and Carolyn B Post. At a young age, he was taken in by his aunt and uncle Claude and Gladys Sink of Slate Hill NY. Thanks to them, he grew up with dirt under his fingernails , learning to homestead and become an avid gardener. He was a dedicated musician and athlete at Minisink Valley High School where he was a trumpeter in the marching band while playing left and right offensive tackle on the football team.
After earning his high school diploma, he was drafted into the United States Army . He was proudly chosen and sent to NCOS and trained to become a drill sergeant during Vietnam. His prestigious army career spanned from 1969 to 1975.
He spent more than a quarter century as a corrections officer in the New York State and Federal Departments of Correction that culminated into a richly deserved retirement from Fishkill Correctional Facility in 2005.

He lived a life that was full of hard work, love and family. Hunting with his sons and friends in winter. Fishing and camping in the spring. Splitting wood for his prized wood pile in summer. He loved outdoors where he spent many years in the Catskill mountains of New York. He loved music and always had classic rock playing on the radio. Most of all, he loved his family. He was happiest when everyone was together. Gathered around a bonfire, a dinner table or a tree on Christmas morning. There was nothing he loved more than his family.
A celebration of life is scheduled October 10, 2026 from 3-6pm at Angela Santos VFW……9401 SW. 110th St., Ocala, FL 34481
