Richard resided in Ormond Beach for a long time, born in Detroit, Michigan. He moved to Florida in 1946.
He was the son of John and Olga Simmons. He is survived by his wife Annemarie Simmons and siblings Sylvia Dowling (nee Simmons) (sister) and William Simmons (brother); his children: Carol Eyster (nee Simmons) (Timothy Eyster), John Simmons (Constance Simmons), Karl Simmons; his grandchildren: Nicholas Eyster, Kathryn Burrows (nee Eyster) (Todd Burrows), Bryan Eyster, Kristopher Simmons, Sean Simmons, Gabrielle Rystedt (nee Simmons) (Joshua Rystedt), Tyler Simmons (Rachel Simmons), Noah Simmons, Benjamin Simmons; nieces (and their families) and 6 great grandchildren.
Richard owned a contracting business and was an army veteran. Later, he worked as plans examiner/inspector for Volusia County as well as an inspector for Universal Engineering. He was also an adjunct teacher at Daytona State.
He was active in his church as an Elder at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, taught Sunday school and led a home bible study for many years.
