Barbieri, Robert Michael born-August 4, 1942 Robert Michael Barbieri passed away July 27, 2022 peacefully at home in DeLand, Florida. He was 79, just eight days shy of his 80th birthday, and only six days shy of his 53rd wedding anniversary. Born and raised in Worcester, MA, he enlisted in the US Navy and served from 1962-1963. He then transferred to the Marine Corp where he served from 1963-1967. During the time he served in the Marine Corp, he was a sergeant who fought in the Vietnam War. He then completed his military career serving in the Army Reserves from 1969-1978. In July 2019 he was honored as one of the first DeLand Hometown Heroes. After the war he worked for Norton Company in Worcester, MA from 1967-2004 in packing and shipping. During his time at Norton Company, he never took a sick day. He met his wife Linda (Glass) Barbieri, prior to enlisting in the Marines, and they were married on August 2, 1969. Bob and Linda settled in Worcester, MA where they raised their three children, and then retired to DeLand, FL in 2004. In DeLand he served as a faithful member and volunteer at LifePoint Community Church. He would also accompany his daughter (monthly) to By His Hands, which is a ministry in his home church that supports the local homeless population. Bob loved to be with his family and was happiest when he was with his wife, children and grandchildren. He was an avid New England Sports fan. Bob enjoyed playing softball for Norton Company before being diagnosed with Parkinsons. Basketball, pool, biking and bowling were other activities Bob enjoyed. Always very active, he enjoyed the outdoors and helping others, which included sweeping the streets. When he and Linda moved to DeLand, he was an avid bowler. He was always up for an adventure, whatever it was, he was eager to be involved. Bob enjoyed many trips abroad and domestically with his wife Linda, sister Diane and husband Guy Messier. He loved life and enjoyed every moment. He also loved animals. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary (Sachetto) Barbieri, and his father Samuel Barbieri. In-laws James and Norma Glass, and his sister-in-law Eileen Barbieri and nephew Michael Whittemore. He is survived by his wife Linda, and four children, James Nathan Barbieri, Worcester, MA, Gina Marie (Barbieri) Compton, Deland, FL, and Joshua Nathan Barbieri, wife Allison, Peabody, MA, Karin Penski, husband Gary, Westminster,MA. Ten grandchildren, Kyle, Kaitlyn, and Courtney (Barbieri) Koczur, husband Drew, Hailey Compton, Adam Abdelwahid, Frank Barbieri, Jason Barbieri, Mark Compton,III, and Ellie Barbieri. Two great grandchildren, Leo and Anna Koczur. Three sisters, Diane (Barbieri) Messier, husband Guy, Lucille Barbieri, and Donna (Barbieri) Desrosiers, and one brother Richard Barbieri. Two sister-in-laws and husbands, Diane (Glass) Arachy, husband Chuck, and Kathleen (Glass) McGowan, husband Nick. Nieces and Nephews, Darryl Messier Sr., wife Debbie, Michael Messier, wife AnnMarie, Jamie Barbieri, Christina Green, Tara Letourneau, Alan Bounville, Dawn Morin, husband Marc, Christopher Barbieri, wife Laura, Bryan Barbieri, husband Lewis Rieley, and great nieces and nephews. Cremation arrangements are being handled by Baldwin Brothers in Port Orange, FL with interment at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, Mims, FL. Celebration of Life Ceremony, with military honors, will be held at LifePoint Community Church, 1747 W. New York Ave. DeLand, FL on August 6th at 10am. Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to LifePoint Community Church youth group.
