Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert “Bob” Hughes, 69, of Orlando, Florida, on August 31, 2026, following a long and courageous battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Bob passed peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by the love of his family and close friends.

Bob is survived by his devoted wife of 44 years, Susan; his son, Jonathan (Kara); his daughter, Megan (Steve); and his cherished granddaughter, Savannah, who brought him immeasurable joy. He was preceded in death by his father, Wallace Hughes; his mother, Ann Hughes; and his brother, Tom Martin.

Born in Orlando at Orange Memorial Hospital, Bob was a lifelong Floridian who treasured both his hometown and the lifelong friendships he formed there. After graduating from Lake Highland Preparatory School, where he was a member of the school’s first football team, he attended Florida State University, where he became a proud member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He earned his degree in Risk Management before joining his father’s independent insurance agency. Bob and his father worked side by side for more than 25 years, building a successful business and sharing a meaningful professional partnership. Bob specialized in commercial insurance and was widely respected for his knowledge, integrity, and dedication to the profession. He also generously gave his time and leadership to serve on multiple community and professional boards, contributing thoughtfully to the organizations and causes he supported.

Bob and Susan built a loving home together, raising two children and later welcoming the granddaughter he adored. His greatest accomplishments were never measured by his career, but by the family he loved and the relationships he nurtured throughout his life.

Above all else, Bob was a man of deep and abiding faith. His relationship with Jesus Christ became the cornerstone of his life and sustained him through every challenge he faced. He found strength, hope, and peace in his faith, and he lived with the quiet confidence that one day he would be welcomed into his eternal home. Today, we take comfort in knowing that Bob is rejoicing in the presence of his Lord and Savior.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. in the Henry Chapel at First Baptist Orlando.

In lieu of flowers, please consider contributing in Bob’s honor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, Florida Chapter. https://www.nationalmssociety.org/
