Obituary

Robert Burns Riggs, 70, of Ocala, Florida, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2026.

Born on November 11, 1955, in Cynthiana, Kentucky, Robert was the son of Bobby and Jolie Riggs. He grew up in West Palm Beach, Florida, where he graduated from Forest Hill High School. In May 2010, Robert married the love of his life, Sharon Riggs, with whom he shared many wonderful years.

Robert dedicated much of his professional life to the transportation industry, serving as a Director of Transportation for two major food distributors and later for AutoZone. After a fulfilling career, he retired three years ago.

Robert believed in living life to the fullest. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, community gatherings, and, most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He was a beloved and respected member of his community and was affectionately known by many as the “Go-To Guy”—the person everyone could count on whenever they needed a helping hand. Robert was also an active member of the Neighborhood Watch group in Ocala Palms, where he took pride in helping and looking out for his neighbors.

Above all, Robert cherished his family. He loved his family with all his heart and was a devoted and beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His kindness, generosity, humor, and willingness to help others will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Sharon Riggs of Ocala; his four children and their spouses, Marti (Peter) Ham, Robert Riggs Jr., John (Iris) Bednarcik, and Deanna Bednarcik; his sister, Cindy (Greg) Parker; his stepdaughters, Christina Sands and Barbara Mace; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind many extended family members and dear friends who will forever cherish his memory.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Hilton Ocala, Arlington Ballroom, located at 3600 SW 36th Avenue, Ocala, FL 34474.

Robert will be remembered for the love he gave so freely, the lives he touched, and the many memories he created with those around him. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and community.
