Robert "Bob" Griffin died Monday, June 5, 2023 after a 6-month struggle with complications due to type 2 diabetes. Bob was born on March 19, 1942 in Homestead, PA. He graduated from Penn State University in 1962 and remained a devoted alumni. At his first job in Kingsport, TN working for American Saint Gobain, he met the love of his life, Charlene Dunn, who preceded him in death in 2014. They married on New Year's Eve, 1965. Bob and Charly moved to Shelby, NC when he was promoted. A better career opportunity drew them back to Pittsburgh where Bob was the Communications and Technology Director for PPG, Industries. Bob and Charly loved to play golf and The Villages met their retirement goals of golf, bridge games, sun, and no snow to shovel. They loved life in The Villages, where they met devoted friends. Bob will be remembered for his sharp wit, hearty laugh, his love of the Pittsburgh Steelers, and well, his stubbornness, a Griffin family trait. He is survived by his sister, BJ Friedman and her husband Stan, of Austin, TX and nephew, Ivan Friedman and his wife Lesli, and their children Marcus and Nora who live in San Marcus TX. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the many friends and golf buddies that have supported and sustained Bob. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 10 at the New Covenant United Methodist Church, 3470 Woodridge Drive, The Villages, 32162.
