Robert “Bob” Hougrand, Sr., age 81, passed away in September 2026 in Venice, FL after a brief illness. 

He was born in Rhode Island to the late Eugene Jr and Marjorie Hougrand. He later shared residence between Connecticut and Florida. 

A proud veteran, he served his country in the U.S. Navy. Back home, he graduated from the Culinary Institute of America and became a familiar face in the community as the owner and operator of The Dog House Restaurant in Deep River, CT. Later, he brought his tech expertise to Aetna working as a Desktop Support Specialist. Upon retiring, he was almost certainly on the golf course—an avid golfer, he could be found out on the fairways multiple days a week as a member of Waterford Golf Club.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene III, and his grandson Alexander. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Marsha (Mowry) Hougrand, who passed away exactly 28 years to the day before him.

He is survived by two sons, Scot Hougrand and Robert (Michelle) Hougrand Jr; two grandchildren Nathaniel and Sydney; four great grandchildren, Brooklynn, Ivory, Edward and William; and his brother-in-law Richard (Pauline) Mowry.

The family will hold a private gathering to celebrate his life at a later date.
