Robert G.
Hudzinski
Aug 23, 1943 — Aug 13, 2026
The Villages
Robert G. Hudzinski passed away unexpectedly, leaving behind a life defined by family, education, community, and a lifelong love of athletics.
Born in Blossburg, Pennsylvania, to Lester and Marion Hudzinski, Robert developed his love of sports at an early age. Athletics became an important thread throughout his life. He played football, basketball, and baseball through high school and was part of one of the early Little League World Series events in Williamsport, Pennsylvania—an experience that remained a special part of his story.
His talent for baseball helped take him to Mansfield State Teacher’s College, where he attended on a baseball scholarship and met Barbara who would become his wife and lifelong companion. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Library Science and History beginning what would become a lifetime devoted to education and learning. Robert later returned to Mansfield University, earning a master’s degree in Special Education and further continuing his education with advanced graduate-level studies at the Bank Street School in New York City.
Robert began his professional career with the Corning-Painted Post School District. What started as a career in teaching grew into decades of service to students, schools, and communities throughout New York’s Southern Tier. Among his early accomplishments was helping establish the first school library at Painted Post Middle School, combining his love of learning with his belief that students should have access to the resources they needed to discover the world beyond the classroom.
As his career progressed, Robert moved from teaching into educational administration and became a well-known educator and administrator throughout the region. His work included leadership involving Community Schools and BOCES, as well as representing local educational interests through numerous boards and committees. After decades dedicated to public education, Robert concluded his career as Superintendent of Bradford Central School District, a community and school family he deeply loved and whose people held a very special place in his heart.
Outside of education, Robert remained deeply connected to his community. He was a member of the Corning BPO Elks Club, the Corning Catholic Community, and the Corning Country Club. It was at the Country Club that golf became another of his great sporting passions.
Yet, for all that Robert accomplished professionally and throughout his community, the most important part of his life was always his family. He loved his family unconditionally, and his wife, Barbara, and daughter, Rushe, were truly the light of his life. His accomplishments mattered, but the life he built with the people he loved mattered most.
Following retirement, Robert and Barbara began a new chapter together in Florida. Retirement gave them the opportunity to enjoy more time together, to travel, and, naturally, more time on the golf course. Robert continued playing the sport he had grown to love and eventually achieved one of golf’s most memorable accomplishments—a coveted hole-in-one at Eagle Ridge Golf Club.
From the baseball fields of Pennsylvania to New York classrooms, libraries, school districts, golf courses, and finally retirement in Florida, Robert's life was one of participation. He did not simply watch from the sidelines. He played, taught, led, served, learned, and loved.
His was a life shaped by education and sports but defined most of all by the people he loved and the lives he touched along the way. Robert leaves behind not simply a record of professional accomplishments, but a story spanning generations of students, educators, colleagues, friends, and family—a legacy that will continue long after his passing. Above all, Robert will be deeply and immeasurably missed by his wife, Barbara, and his daughter, Rushe, who will forever carry his love, his memory, and the countless moments they shared with him in their hearts.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to The Humane Society of Sumter County ( https://hsspca.org/donate/ ) in Robert’s memory. Private arrangements are being made by Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society, Wildwood, Florida.
