Obituary

Robert "Bob" Joseph Hassett, 82, of Port Orange, Florida passed in peace at his home on February 21, 2016.

Bob was born and raised in central New York along with his siblings, Mary, Fred, William, Jack, Ed and Sharon.  Bob was in the Navy and was stationed in California where he met his wife of 61 years, Joan Hassett.  After his 4 years in the Navy, Bob and Joan moved back to central New York and raised their three children, Mark Hassett, Diane Castelli and PJ Hassett.

Bob was a steamfitter with Local 267 for over 50 years and was an original member of the local Elks Club.  He was also a member of the American Legion and VFW.  Bob and Joan enjoyed over 40 years of boating on Cayuga Lake including many group dinners and trips to Canada or Ithaca.  This provided many wonderful memories and friendships.  Bob was extremely handy and always willing to help anyone in need with a project or if they were stuck in the snow!

After retirement, Bob and Joan moved to Charlotte, North Carolina for nine years. The past 11 years lived in Port Orange, Florida.  During retirement, Bob enjoyed golfing, traveling with his wife and continued his joy of cooking.  His grand dogs especially loved his special "grand pa treats".  He was a loving grandfather to Megan (Shane) Schumaker, Michele (Nick) Morton, Kristin (Darren) Clary and Martin Hassett and their four and growing great grandchildren.

Bob was an amazing husband, father and friend.  He will be missed by all those who loved him.
