Obituary

The one and only, the legend, Robert T. Lacey of Orlando, Florida peacefully passed away on December 28, 2025 at the age of 93 after suffering a stroke on December 21, 2025.

Born on February 12, 1932,  Robert (aka Bob, RT, Bobby) grew up between Miami, Florida and Chattanooga, Tennessee.  Known for his athleticism, he excelled in all sports at Redbank High School in Chattanooga.  After graduation, he served in the Coast Guard as an Aviation Machinist's Mate, Second Class, during the Korean War. After receiving his honorable discharge, he served as a firefighter for the City of Miami Fire Department.

Thereafter, he began what would be a long and successful career in law enforcement.  He was a Motorcycle Patrol Officer/Physical Training Supervisor with the Dade County Public Safety Department in Miami, a Management Consultant with the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) in Washington DC, and a Division Chief/Special Agent with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA).  Thereafter he went to work for the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC) in Brunswick, GA where he served as an Assistant Director in the Special Training Division. Throughout his career, he also earned five degrees, including his Juris Doctorate.   He continued his work in law enforcement by continuing to train up and coming police officers and then went on to serve as a Consultant to the Legal Counsel for the Broward County Sheriff's Office in Ft. Lauderdale, FL. He also served as an adjunct professor at various colleges, universities, police and professional training institutes.

Aside from his professional career, Bob was known for his friendly disposition, his willingness to always listen and his desire to help others regardless of age.  Anyone who knew him will remember that if the garage door was up, the door was open to come on in.  While health and fitness were always a priority, he truly enjoyed a good party and an ice cold beer.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Dotti (married for 64 years), his daughter Kimberly L. Dill and son in law Dan Dill, granddaughters Annalara and Chloe Dill, son in law Andrew Connell (predeceased by his daughter Susan L. Connell), granddaughter Jennifer Connell Santiago, great granddaughters Taylor Connell, Quinn Santiago, Parker Santiago, great grandson Jace Santiago, grandsons Tony Connell (Patrick Arnaiz) and  Robert Connell, sister in law Bootsie Bishop, brother in law Ralph Page, sister and brother in law Rose and Ken  Young, nieces and nephews and cherished friends from all over who meant so much to him.

To honor his memory, and his specific wishes, a celebration of life, "Bob's Party" is being planned for the weekend of February 7th, 2026, in Orlando, Florida. Further details will be provided through his daughter Kimberly Lacey Dill's facebook page. There will be no funeral service as he only wanted everyone to have fun and celebrate.
