Robert John “Bob” Nies, Jr., 83, born in Syracuse, New York, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 3, 2026, in Orlando, Florida, following a years-long battle with leukemia. He was surrounded by his children, fulfilling one of his final wishes to have his family together and close to him.

Bob was the son of Robert Nies Sr. and Eula Nies. He was predeceased by his sisters, Patricia Buskirk (Nies) and Judy Nies, and brother-in-law, Joe Mezzetesta.

He is survived by his siblings, Barbara Mezzesta (Nies) of Florida and Ed Nies (Sharron) of Syracuse, New York; and his four children: Brian R. Nies (Angela); Gregory R. Nies (Maria) of Syracuse, New York; Carter R. Nies of New Jersey; and Jacqueline Moyer (Nies) (Patrick Moyer) of Columbus, Georgia.

Bob was also a proud grandfather to Shayla Nies, Chris Nies, Aimee Nies, Kailani Moyer, and Jameson Moyer.

Bob also leaves behind his nephews and niece, Matt, Tim, and Tammy, all of Syracuse. He was predeceased by his nephews, Bruce “Reno” and Butch, with whom he shared many fun and memorable years in Syracuse and Florida.

Bob was an avid fisherman and a longtime coin collector. An entrepreneur, he owned Nies Financial and founded National Drug & Alcohol Recovery.

Bob knew how to enjoy life and leaves behind plenty of stories, laughs, and good times.

Above all, Bob loved his family. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched.
