Robert
Noble
Sep 12, 1937 — May 2, 2026
Robert Gordon Noble, 88, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family on May 2, 2026, in Collier County, Florida. Born on September 12, 1937, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Faye Carrick Noble and Merle Noble, Bob was raised with strong Midwestern values, a love for sports, and an adventurous spirit that would define his remarkable life. As a young boy, he spent countless hours outdoors with his father throwing baseballs and building model airplanes, passions that sparked both his competitive nature and fascination with aviation.
Bob graduated from Grand Rapids High School in 1956. While still in school, he developed an exceptional work ethic that would become one of the hallmarks of his life. After graduation, he secured a position with American Motors, where his natural leadership abilities quickly led him into management.
A few years later, after working within the snowmobile and power equipment industry, Bob was presented with an opportunity that would forever change the course of his career — a small distributorship in Brainerd, Minnesota for STIHL. At the time, the company offered only three models of chainsaws in the United States. Bob immediately recognized the potential and devoted himself wholeheartedly to growing the business through long hours, determination, and endless hard work.
After successfully building the Minnesota territory over the next decade, Bob’s accomplishments caught the attention of senior executives at STIHL. In 1987, at just 50 years old, he was awarded the Florida distributorship, which eventually expanded to include Georgia, Alabama, the Bahamas, and the Caribbean. This opportunity marked a defining turning point in his career and launched what would become one of the most successful STIHL distributorships in the country.
Bob was known for thinking beyond convention. One of his favorite stories involved flying Fred Whyte, then president of STIHL Inc., over the state of Florida in a small airplane. Looking down at the endless green landscape below, Bob famously remarked, “Look at all of this green stuff growing — we need something to cut it with.” That vision helped inspire the expansion of STIHL’s outdoor power equipment line, contributing to the company becoming a household name throughout America.
Throughout his decades in business, Bob earned tremendous respect within the outdoor power equipment industry for his integrity, innovation, and relentless drive. Yet despite his professional accomplishments, it was his larger-than-life personality, generosity, and adventurous spirit that people remembered most.
Bob is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Suzanne, and her four daughters, Stephanie, Soleil, Sarah, and Kimberlee. He is also survived by his daughters, Shari Noble Fosse and her husband Mike Fosse, and Susan Haselkorn; his granddaughters Rachel and Sydney; his grandson Jacob; his devoted brother Tom Noble and his wife Ruth; and his nephew David Noble and his wife Narda. He was preceded in death by his son, Robert “J.R.” Noble Jr., who passed away in 2016.
Beyond business, Bob’s passions included fishing, automobiles, golf, aviation, and travel. He and his wife, Suzanne, shared a love of adventure and created many cherished memories together throughout their travels. He was an avid sports enthusiast who rarely missed an opportunity to watch a game, no matter the sport.
Bob was known as a generous and spontaneous man who touched countless lives through both his kindness and mentorship. He loved telling stories — colorful, detailed tales filled with humor, wisdom, and adventure that always left listeners wanting more.
Robert Gordon Noble built an extraordinary legacy through hard work, vision, loyalty, and love for those around him. He will be remembered not only as a pioneering leader in the outdoor power equipment industry, but as a deeply loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
His kindness, laughter, and remarkable spirit will remain forever etched in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
