Robert Lee O’Steen, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, in Paisley, Florida. He was born on June 20, 1952, in Sebring, Florida.
Robert proudly served his country as a Military Police officer in the United States Marine Corps. Following his military service, he dedicated his life to serving and protecting others with unwavering passion. He worked tirelessly as a police officer in South Carolina’s Sheriff’s Department, as well as the City of Homestead, and later served as a K-9 corrections officer at Dade Correctional Institute in Homestead, Florida. After retiring from corrections, Robert’s love for the outdoors led him to become a forest ranger in Paisley, a role he cherished deeply. He dedicated himself to the Smokey Bear program, whose campaign has truly been the heart and soul of effective wildfire prevention education.
Robert was a man who truly loved life and embraced it with everything he had. He was passionate about fishing, hunting, his family, and his friends. He never took a single moment for granted and believed that family was the most precious thing in this world. Known for his quick wit and infectious sense of humor, Robert had a gift for making everyone around him smile, cracking jokes and sharing laughter even in the toughest times.
He was also passionately involved in his community. Through his work with forestry and various community activities, Robert shared his love of service and the outdoors with others. Many in Lake, Volusia, and Sumter counties remember “Bob’s Mini Donuts,” which brought joy and sweet comfort to countless local events through Lake, Volusia, and Sumter Counties, creating memories that still bring smiles.
Robert will be forever remembered for his generous spirit, his laughter, his love for the outdoors, and above all, his unbreakable love for his family and friends. The cherished memories he leaves behind will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Robert Glenn O’Steen; his mother, Jean Louise Spraggins; and his brother, Obie O’Steen.
Robert is survived by his loving family, including his daughter Valerie and son-in-law Dale Hodge, his grandchildren Taylor Bain & Deanna Bain, Dylan Rose and fiancé Delayana Shamey & Zachary Rose, great-grandchildren Eric Bain & Braylee Rose, sisters Yvonne Loar, Glenda O’Steen Fales, Marie O’Steen Strong, Brother Jason O’Steen, extended family, and many dear friends who will always miss his laughter, stories, and unmistakable humor.
