Robert W. Ploettner

February 7, 2026

Robert W. Ploettner, age 90, of Port Charlotte, Fla., passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026.

Born on May 24, 1935, in Attleboro, Mass., Robert was the son of the late William Ploettner and Irene (Hoernig) Ploettner.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Jane Ploettner; his daughters, Laurel Fernandes (Marshall), Robin Dawson, and Nancy Rafferty; seven grandsons; four great-granddaughters; and his sister, Ruth Jordan. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Cheryl Silva, and by his sisters, Irene Moore and Dorothy Jordan.

Robert was a proud U.S. Navy veteran who served during the Korean War era. He was an avid hunter and boater and greatly enjoyed traveling across country in his RV with his wife, Mary Jane. Robert loved sharing stories about his upbringing, his friends, and his time in the Navy, and he was known for his generous spirit.

Mechanically inclined and a natural problem-solver, Robert was always willing to take on projects around the house. He also enjoyed fine dining, especially a good steakhouse, and was a devoted NASCAR racing fan. He cherished time with his family and dearly loved his dog, Cindy.

Robert will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

A memorial service will be held in March at Baldwin Brothers Funeral & Cremation Society. The date and time will be announced at a later time.
