Robert (Bob) W. Sands at age 71, passed away peacefully on June 6, 2025, in Ocoee, Florida. Bob was predeceased by his loving parents, William P. Sands and Elizabeth Driscoll Sands. Bob is survived by his loving and devoted wife of twenty-eight years, Carol Ann Sands, and his faithful loving dog "Max." Siblings, Mary Ellen Sands Sivak, Fresh Meadows, NY, Judy Sands Mahonski, Albany, NY, sister-in-law, Celeste Ferguson, FL, Two brothers-in-law, Ronald Ferguson TX, and Steven Ferguson, FL. His niece, Mary Beth Sivak, nephew, Kevin (Dana) Sivak, two great nieces, Shannon and Maeve Sivak, many cousins and friends.
Robert was born in New York City on April 8, 1954; he grew up in the Bronx, NY with his parents and his two sisters. Robert was born with Cerebral Palsy (CP). As a result of having CP, Bob had muscle weaknesses, movement, and balance issues throughout his life. However, that was not going to deter him from living a rich full life. He did not see nor entertain any obstacles put in his path. His strong Catholic faith and sheer determination enabled him to achieve many milestones throughout his life.
He attended Catholic schools from elementary through college. He received his BA and MBA from Manhattan College. After obtaining his degrees, he worked for Swiss Bank in New York City for 11 years, in Accounts Receivable, and The Bank of New York for 12 years. Robert married the love of his life Carol Ann Ferguson on October 12, 1996, at Saint Margaret of Cortona Catholic Church in Bronx, NY. In 2005, Bob and Carol moved to Wake Forest, NC with their dog, "Theo". Bob loved his dogs and often noted that he was a proud four paws Dad.
Bob was a true New Yorker and a devoted NY Yankees fan. He never missed their games. When Carol retired and Bob stopped working, they relocated to Winter Garden, FL. In 2017. They built their new home with many handicapped accommodations to meet Bob's needs to help him remain independent for as long as possible. Unfortunately, when Bob's physical health worsened, and he was unsteady on his feet which caused him to frequently fall, he agreed to go into a nursing home in Ocoee, FL because it was close to their home. While Bob resided there, he especially enjoyed the Sunday weekly visits with the local priest in addition to attending Sunday services. He also enjoyed the many visits and telephone chats with his wife, his two sisters, and his sister-in-law.
We mourn his passing deeply, but we know he's at peace now. Internment of his ashes will be at a future date at Queen of Angels Catholic Cemetery in Winter Park, Fl.
Baldwin Brothers Funeral and Cremation Society is honored to care for Mr. Sands and his family at this time. Those wishing to share a memory or light a virtual candle in his memory are encouraged to do so on his memorial page.
