A life of faith, family, perseverance, service, and love

Roger P. Frechette Sr., 84, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, and went home to be with his beloved wife, Sandra, and their son Robert in Heaven. His family takes comfort in knowing that Roger’s and Sandra's lifelong love story continues in God's eternal peace.

Born on October 4, 1941, in Lowell, Massachusetts, Roger was the second oldest of seven children of Jean-Paul "The Blond Tiger" Frechette and Rita Fournier Frechette. A proud son of Lowell, he carried forward his family's tradition of hard work, boxing, service, and community.

The center of Roger's life was Sandra Graham Frechette. Together they raised four sons: Roger Jr., Ronnie, Robert, and Randy. In 1971, they endured the heartbreaking loss of their young son Robert. After time apart, faith and Sandra's prayers brought them together again. They remarried in 1996 and shared nearly three more decades. When Roger was recently asked when he first knew he loved Sandra, he answered without hesitation: "When I saw her."

Boxing was in Roger's blood. During a distinguished sixteen-year career, he became a Silver Mittens, Golden Gloves Novice, Greater Lowell Open, and New England AAU champion; represented New England nationally; and became the Fort Dix U.S. Army Boxing Champion in the 118-pound division while serving in the Massachusetts National Guard. He later fought professionally, including for the North American Flyweight Championship, and was inducted into the New England Boxing Hall of Fame in 2007.

Believing boxing could change lives, Roger founded the West End Boxing Gym and worked with the Lowell Boys Club, mentoring young athletes in discipline, perseverance, and respect. He also owned the Moosehead Cafe, built successful roofing businesses, and invested in Lowell real estate. As the youngest president of the Passe Temps Club, he modernized the organization and helped welcome women into its membership.

Lowell remained home in Roger's heart. During the final two years of their lives, Roger and Sandra were lovingly cared for in the Winter Park home of their son Ronnie and daughter-in-law Stephanie. Roger's final wish was to return to Lowell to honor Sandra. On August 1, 2026, family, friends, former athletes, and community leaders gathered at the Knickerbocker Club for "One More Round with Roger," a celebration the family will always treasure.

Roger is survived by his sons, Roger Frechette Jr., Ronald "Ronnie" Frechette and his wife, Stephanie, and Randy "Frenchy" Frechette and his wife, Tina; his grandchildren, Thomas, Kenneth, Hannah Nicole, Sean, Kendall, and Leo Frechette; and his great-grandchildren, Ashlyn, Kody, Gage, Theodore "Theo," Samuel, MacKenzie, and Lincoln. He is also remembered by his extended family, lifelong friends, fellow boxers, former athletes, and the Lowell community.

He was predeceased by Sandra, who passed away on January 1, 2026; their son, Robert; his grandson, Graham; and his parents, Jean-Paul and Rita Frechette.

Roger lived as he fought - with courage, resilience, and heart. His greatest victories were the family he loved, the lives he lifted, and the enduring love he shared with Sandra. His final return to Lowell truly was one more round, and his legacy will live on in every life he touched.
