Obituary

Ronald Kacic, Sr., 88, passed away peacefully on February 13th after a long and courageous battle with melanoma. A man of strength, determination, and unwavering devotion to his family, Ron lived a full and active life that left a lasting impact on all who knew him.

Born to the late Ruth (Lynch) and George Kacic, Ron was also preceded in death by his beloved son, George, and his sisters, Joan Kaler and Georgene (Raymond) Withee. Through his deep love for his faith, he carried their memory with him throughout his life, honoring the strong family values instilled in him from an early age.

Ron is survived by his wife, Ruth (McLaughlin), with whom he shared a 63-year partnership. He leaves behind his sons, Joe (Sarah) and Ron (Tammy), who were a constant source of pride. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Daniel, Caitlin, Emily, and Brendan, and great-grandchildren Morrigan and Braden, each of whom brought him immense joy and happiness.

A lifelong competitor and advocate for staying active, Ron drew much of his inspiration from his early years playing football at Parma High School, where he earned five letters in football and track. He was selected captain of the football team and received the Sportsmanship Trophy. After high school, Ron earned a full football scholarship to Miami University in Ohio and started for three years on both offense and defense. His teams won the MAC Championship three straight years, going undefeated each year. In his senior year, Ron was selected as First Team All Mid-American Conference.

Following his college career, Ron played one year of professional football in the Canadian Football League with the Saskatchewan Roughriders. After his time in Canada, he enlisted in the Army National Guard, where he played on the Fort Knox Regimental football team. He worked for Texaco, Inc. for over 30 years, progressing from sales to plant manager, and relocated from Ohio to Indiana, Illinois, and Michigan before retiring in Florida, where he enjoyed golf and an active lifestyle.

Ron remained energetic and active long after his playing career, showing the same determination he once displayed on the field. Whether spending time with family, sharing stories of his football years, or facing life’s challenges head-on, he did so with quiet strength and resilience.

He will be remembered for his steadfast love of family, his competitive spirit, and his enduring courage. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who loved him and in the lessons he passed down through generations.

Friends and family are welcome to attend a memorial service for Ron at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 5323 E. CR 462, Wildwood, Florida, on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in Michigan.
