Ronald (Ron) H. Stetter, 91, of Longwood Florida passed away, at home, March 18, 2023 . Ronald was born in Altoona, PA son of the late Herman and Eleanor Bathurst Stetter. He was raised in Altoona and attended St. Mary's Elementary School and Altoona High School. In 1948 he enlisted in the US Navy and Honorably served until his discharge in December of 1952. Ronald went to Boot Training camp in Great Lakes, Ill and served on the crash and rescue Squad at the US NAVEL Air Station, Quonset Point Navel, Rhode Island. During this time he volunteered to participate in the use of Helicopters for Air Sea Rescue of downed pilots which was filmed for public viewing by RKO and PATHE news cameras and World News. He also served aboard the USS Midway CVB41-Navel Aircraft Carrier.
Ronald received his BS Accounting degree from St. Francis College in Loretto, PA in 1959
After his discharge Ronald began his long career in the Automotive industry. He started in 1952 joining the Beasley Motor Rebuilders as a Salesman and Quality Control Manager. In 1964 he joined Daimler Chrysler Motors, now FCA, until his retirement in 2001. He held the positions of District Service Rep. Metro City Manager, Business/Office Manager, Assistant Regional Sales Manager, Assistant Zone Service Manager , Zone Service Manager and Regional Fleet Service Manager. A career that spanned over 37 years.
His love for automobiles carried over to his hobbies. He built two hot rods; a 1932 Ford 3 window coupe and a 1940 Ford pick-up truck. He was given the Amelia Award in 2015 at Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance for his 32 Ford. He will always be remembered as kind, funny, generous, loving and everyone's best friend.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Diane Grafton Cera; sons, Ron (Sandy) Stetter and Brian (Judy) Stetter; daughters, Kim (Paul) Peterson, Kris (Heidi Pross) Stetter, Mary (Phil) Gribble; "pappy to grandchildren", Eric (Elizabeth) Peterson, Angie (Brandon) Stein, Carter (Bryan Ebner) Peterson, Ellen Stetter, Dylan Stetter, Hanna Gribble, and Graden (Cheyenne) Gribble; his extended family, Tim Cera, Susan Holcomb and David Cera; grandchildren, Sage, June, and Reed Cera and Daniel Holcomb. He is also survived by the mother of his children, Mary Edna Stetter of Minneapolis and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents and sisters Grenda, Imogene and Larene.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Annunciation Church (time to be announced). Burial will follow in Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to VITAS Hospice.
