Obituary

On the morning of Monday, November 27, 2023, Rose passed peacefully after an illness. She was 87 years old.

Rose Mary (Kapraun) Rollo was born during a snowstorm on January 16, 1936 in Henry, Illinois to Lennie and Albert Kapraun. She attended High School at the Villa de Chantal in Rock Island, Ill and was proud of being a Villa Girl. After high school she attended Marycrest College, as well as lived and worked in Chicago during the summer. While at Marycrest she met Arthur Raymond Rollo of East Moline. They married February 11, 1956 and started their big adventure by moving to California.

Rose fully embraced the California lifestyle enjoying life near the beach when they lived in Playa del Rey and poolside while living in Orange. She loved art and was especially skilled at ceramics and sewing. She filled the home with craft projects and encouraged the creative pursuits of her children. She and Arthur loved to entertain and did so often. The years were filled with friends and family, gathered around house and table in celebration.

In 1973 Rose and her family moved to Connecticut. She continued her artistic pursuits taking classes in painting and design. She was an avid reader, especially of spy novels and in the summer months could be found late afternoon enjoying a book in the sunshine on the back deck of their home. The weekend brought outings that often included everyone piling into the car for a trip to a museum, historic location, for a picnic, or movie. Rose was also involved with her local parish, Notre Dame of Easton, and worked part-time at the school library at Helen Keller Middle School.

With the nest empty and Arthur retired, they were ready for their next big adventure, this time in New Smyrna Beach, Florida. In Florida Rose made new friends, connected with family, explored a new set of museums, and was able to renew her love of the beach. Rose enjoyed daily walks at the beach and the boardwalk at her condominium. The New Smyrna Beach community, especially at the Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, brought her happiness.

Rose lived a life filled with family, friends, art, and travel. She was greatly loved and will be missed by all.

Rose is survived by her four children Michael Rollo, Michelle Matteson, Suzanne Melton, and Rebecca Gabryszewski; her six grandchildren, Steven Rollo, Rebecca Matteson, Lani and Lily Melton, and Helena and Hamish Gabryszewski; her sister, Ruth Fulli, and brothers Albert "Bud" Kapraun, Donald "Fritz" Kapraun, and Robert Kapraun, as well as many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her husband Arthur and her sister Joanne Wiedman.

A service will be held in her honor at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, New Smyrna Beach on January 25, 2024 at 12:00pm.

Her ashes will be laid to rest next to her husband, Arthur at Arlington National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church.
