Rosemary Elizabeth Smith, born November 13, 1940, in Roselle, New Jersey, passed away on October 18, 2026.

Rosemary grew up in Roselle, where she met the love of her life, William “Bill” Smith. Together, they raised two children before making Florida their home in the late 1970s. Throughout her career, Rosemary worked for many years as a secretary for Harris and the University of Florida.

Rosemary found happiness in spending time with family and friends. She loved dancing, sharing laughter, and making memories with those closest to her. Although she slowed down in her later years, she could still occasionally be found dusting off her dancing shoes or enjoying the sunshine and fresh air while visiting with her loved ones. Her love of life and the simple joys of being surrounded by family and friends will be fondly remembered.

She is survived by her siblings, Patricia Deering of Palm Bay, Florida, and Joseph O’Grady of Toms River, New Jersey; her children, Samantha Heilig of Longwood, Florida, and Bill Smith, Jr. of Gainesville, Florida; and her two grandchildren, Joseph Smith and Olivia Heilig.

Rosemary was preceded in death by her parents, George and Rose (née Cahill) O’Grady; her brother, George O’Grady; her husband, William “Bill” Smith, Sr.; and her sister, Maureen Dent.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Rosemary’s memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
