Rosemary Wensing passed away March 6, 2026 in Orlando, Florida. Rosemary, 95, was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 15, 1931, the daughter of J. Lawrence Breen, Sr. and Rose Crogan Breen.
She attended Chicago’s Visitation Parish Elementary School and graduated from Visitation High School in 1949 where she was active in many school organizations and community activities including the USO supporting those serving in America's Armed Forces.
Upon graduating Visitation High School in Chicago, she attended St. Mary’s Hospital School of Nursing and Quincy College (IL) earning certification as a Registered Nurse (RN) in 1953.
As a RN she cared for Veterans at the Hines Veterans Affairs Hospital in Chicago, IL, and later worked as a surgical nurse, OB/GYN specialist & registered nurse in hospitals and private practice in San Francisco, CA and Quincy, IL. She continuously kept herself current with advancements in medical technology and treatment and in 1976 earned her BSN degree from Quincy College (Quincy University).
Rosemary also served on the medical staff of Culver-Stockton College, Gardner Denver Company and managed programs for Women and Infants Care (WIC) in Adams County, IL.
She married World War II US Army Veteran Norbert H. (Bert) Wensing (1926-1977) on April 27, 1957 and in 1964 helped him launch and manage the successful, N.H Wensing Construction Company that built industrial facilities at Knapheide Manufacturing as well as projects at Quincy College, other area schools, small businesses and residential projects.
Upon his death in January 26, 1977 Rosemary assumed control of the company completing existing projects under contract until the company suspended operations in 1978.
She was active in the Saint Francis Solanus Parish and school and other community service organizations in the Quincy, IL area. She enjoyed travel visiting Europe, The Holy Land, Brazil, the Caribbean and Hawaii as well as many parts of the United States.
Her commitment to community service continued when in 1987 she retired and moved to Winter Park, Florida. Rosemary immediately became an active member of the Mayfield Avenue community and The Navy League of the United States Central Florida Council board, visiting Navy ships and recognizing the outstanding service of America's Sailors and Marines. She was also involved with the Winter Park Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs Committee and volunteered with the Winter Park Art Festivals, Walt Disney World Marathon and as a active supporter of sustainable agriculture through Winter Park Urban Farm.
She raised two sons, Kevin M. Wensing, a retired US Navy Captain of Alexandria, VA, and Timothy J. Wensing, President of CMC Construction of Miami, FL. Timothy resides with his wife Giovanna Montalvo Wensing and children, Christian and Mae Lynn, both Eagle Scouts like their father, in Coral Gables, FL. Kevin lives in Alexandria, VA with his wife Anne Hartley Hobson Wensing and their daughter, Grace Hartley Hobson Wensing.
"Grandma Dee Dee" flew with legendary Joe Kittinger in a hot air balloon, soared through the skies in a glider over Florida and in helicopters over the volcanos of Hawaii, sailed the Potomac River aboard the former presidential yacht USS Sequoia, and witnessed many NASA and SpaceX launches. Her grandchildren share her spirit of adventure and commitment to serving their community and country.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers J. Lawrence Breen Jr., and James Edward Breen, and her husband, Bert Wensing.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Friends of the Log Cabin in Quincy, IL or a charity of your choosing.
A celebration of life will be held in Winter Park, FL and memorial services will be held at St Francis Solanus Church in Quincy, Illinois and Visitation Parish in Chicago, IL. The family will announce plans when details are finalized.
