IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ross Gordon
Binder
April 16, 1954 – January 24, 2026
Ross G. Binder went to be with the Lord on January 24, 2026 at his home in Alva, Florida. He was born on April 16, 1954 in San Mateo, California to Gordon and Gladys Binder.
Ross lived and attended school in Milbrae, CA and went on to further his studies at the University of California at Davis. After working in a lab at U.C. Berkeley, he went on to earn his P.H.D. in biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin in Madison. Ross was interested in adding engineering to his scientific studies and completed his post doctoral experience at MIT.
Ross moved to the Syracuse, NY area and worked as a biochemist at Bristol-Myers Squibb for twenty-five years. During that time, he published six scientific articles and he holds one U.S. patent. In 2005, Ross embarked on a new chapter. Along with doing handyman work, he taught chemistry during a few semesters at LeMoyne College in Syracuse and bioengineering at Syracuse University.
Never being one to be idle, Ross enjoyed playing soccer, tennis, and playing guitar and singing with friends at church. He was a risk taker who loved travel and adventures. As a dad, Ross coached his children while they played soccer on community and school teams. While living in Florida, Ross devoted much of his time to supporting and sponsoring his church’s relationship with a church in Castillito, Cuba.
Ross was a loving husband to his wife Marilyn Cornell. He also leaves behind his son Michael Binder and his daughter-in-law Raquel of Massachusetts, and his daughter Grace Binder of Florida. He was the proud grandfather of Talita and Mateo Binder. He leaves behind his brother Brooks Binder of Colorado, his sister Elaine (Bill) Obernesser of California, niece Debbie (Matthew) Tisdale, and great nephews Miles and Daniel Tisdale.
Ross spent his adult life loving and guiding his children and found great joy and pride in their accomplishments. His unwavering faith was an example for all, as he strived to know and understand God.
There will be a celebration of Ross’s life at the Alva Methodist Church in Alva, Florida on April 18th. Donations may be sent to the Alva Methodist Church (Castillito Fund), 21440 Pearl Street, Alva, FL 33920.
