Obituary

Roy Arden Fox, 75, passed into his next life on January 18, 2025 at his home in Zellwood, Florida.

Roy was born October 11, 1949 in Chicago to parents James and Gertrude.  He graduated from Gage Park High School in 1967 and attended Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.  Continuing his education at Elmhurst College he graduated with dual degrees in chemistry and sales.  He married Barbara and had their son Roy Jr. in 1969.

Roy was employed by Amoco Chemical Corp.; in their labs he developed several patents as a chemist including all of the plastics in your vehicle.  In 1977 he joined their sales team transferring to Medford, New Jersey where their son Randolph was born.  In 1986 the family moved to Brighton, Michigan continuing Roy's expanding sales for Amoco. Roy worked in realty for the Michigan Group in Brighton from 1995-2000 where he was known for honesty and going the extra mile for his clients.  In 2002 he opened the Copper Pickle Deli and Bakery in Howell, MI, a Chicago style restaurant reminiscent of Swanson's Deli that his family operated in the 60's/70's on the south side.

Roy was an avid fisherman.  He taught anyone interested in learning the art of fishing; especially his sons.  This man could write a poem with his rod tip that would make fish fall in love, not with his lure, but with his soul.  Through his life he enjoyed many hobbies including expert snow skiing, scuba diving, and deer hunting.  He was active in Boy Scouts and was an assistant Scoutmaster who enjoyed passing his vast repertoire of knowledge onto future generations.  He was very proud of hiking 136+ miles in 9 days at the Philmont Scout Ranch in the mountains of New Mexico.  Roy coached his sons' baseball and soccer teams as it was in his nature to selflessly give for the betterment of others.

Roy and Bobbie retired to Zellwood Station where he was known as the "Chicken Man" for singing jingles in response to numbers drawn at bingo and was the leader of his trivia team.  During these years he fostered relationships with the best friends of his life.

Roy is survived by his loving wife of 56 years Barbara Fox (Herth), his two sons Roy and Randy (wife Tiffany), his brother James Fox (wife Mary), sister Barbara Misch, cousins Bud (wife Jan) and Ken (wife Lynn), niece April, nephews Steven, David and Jason, and great nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held February 23rd from 12-3pm at Zellwood Station's Whistle Stop restaurant.  Please check the ZS Post Office for announcements and to RSVP.
