Russell Herbert Hassinger, born on January 29, 1945, in Winona, Minnesota, peacefully passed away on March 28, 2026, in Ormond Beach, Florida. His life was marked by dedication, service, and a deep love for family and community.

Russell's early years in Winona were distinguished by his athletic spirit and academic achievements. In high school, he was a keen baseball player, proudly taking on the role of pitcher. Graduating from Winona Senior High School in 1963, he pursued further education at Winona State University. However, feeling a strong call to serve his country, Russell chose to join the United States Army, a decision that brought him immense pride and shaped much of his life's journey.

Beyond his military service, Russell found joy and solace outdoors. Fishing and hunting were among his favorite pastimes, reflecting his deep appreciation for nature. He was also an avid football enthusiast, demonstrating his enduring passion for sports. His spiritual life was grounded in his membership at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, where he was a valued member of the congregation.

Russell’s legacy lives on through his beloved wife, Lynn Hassinger, to whom he was married for 58 years. Together, they built a family filled with love and warmth. He is survived by his sons, Thomas Boonak of Virginia and Paul Hassinger of Mims, Florida; his daughters Sarah (Robert) Sändig of Sulzbach, Germany, Debbie (Sidney) Chism of Temple, Georgia, and Diane (Richard) Santiago of Ormond Beach, Florida, and his three siblings: Linda (David) Knopick of Mankato, Minnesota, Brian (Mary) Hassinger of Winona, Minnesota, and Josephine Hassinger of Winona, Minnesota. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Anthony Hassinger and Gloria Smith Hassinger, whose memories he treasured deeply.
