Obituary

Russell James Porwitzky, 88, of Leesburg, Florida, peacefully left this life on July 21, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love and sacrifice. Born on September 10, 1936, in Ashland, Wisconsin, he was the cherished son of the late Fred Porwitzky and Mildred Taylor, whose memories he held close to his heart.

His life was a testament to unwavering dedication—serving his country proudly for 20 years in the United States Air Force, retiring with honor as a Staff Sergeant. Even after his military days, Russell's heart remained driven by service, as he brightened lives as a bus driver and stayed actively engaged in his community, always ready to lend a helping hand.

A man of profound faith and deep conviction, Russell was a dedicated member of Holy Angels Church in Saint Albans, Vermont, and a proud Knight of Columbus. His steadfast commitment to faith, family, and service shone brightly in every endeavor, inspiring all who knew him.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 15 years, Eleanor "Ellie" Porwitzky (née McRice), and his two sons—Thomas Porwitzky and his wife Wendy of New Mexico, and Michael Porwitzky and his wife Melanie of Saint Albans, Vermont. He also leaves behind his stepdaughters, Victoria Giroux of Leesburg, Florida, and Sandra Derry of Oregon, along with a cherished grandson and great-grandson who will forever carry his loving spirit.

Predeceased by stepchildren, James Derry, Susan Rank and Kenneth Derry, Russell's life will forever be remembered for his kind heart, resilient spirit, unwavering faith, and lifelong devotion to his family and country.

He will be laid to rest at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, where his memory will forever be honored.
